Product Review: Scunci Evolution

Have any of you ran into these little critters??? How do I describe them??? I guess they are made out of rubber....but not like rubber bands...It is the thicker, rubber I guess....kinda like "Jellies" sandals. Anywho LOOOOOVE!!!!

They are super secure and seem to mold or fit your hair however you want them to. Like with the seamless, or ouchless, ponytail holders you would have to wrap them around for them to hold a true pony, maybe it is just my thick hair, but I can slide these babies on and without wrapping, it secures my hair. Not in a true all day ponytail style, but to hold hair to the side, while working with the other side, or even to bun it...I did not have to double it up to secure the hair.

My hair did not snag or get caught in them. When taking them out, I did not unwrap...I carefully just slid it off (I only doubled it, so it was not wrapped around too tight).
These babies are like heaven!!
I hate to give it a 5 out of 5 because, I don't really believe in perfect products, but I can say that they are definitely perfect for me and my hair, so a 5 out of 5 it has earned.

  • Fits securely
  • Does not snag
  • Affordable
  • Easy to remove
  • Does not cause breakage
  • Does not get tangled in hair.
LOOOOOOVE!

Product Review: As I Am Cowash

As I Am Coconut CoWash
"CoWash: To cleanse hair with conditioner, oppose to using shampoo, instilling mosisture, oppose to stripping it with sulfates. (Sulfate free)"

I will start out with the good about this product. It smells like HEAVEN!!!! I reeeeally like the smell. That's about it. It comes in a jar, but would be much more convenient if it came in a bottle or pump. It seems as if the water that drips from your hand, into the jar, would eventually thin the product out.
I actually wish the product was a bit thicker, creamier. Also performance wise it was "meh". I guess it did what it was supposed to do, cleanse with out the sulfates, but I feel like I could have gotten the same results from the Aussie Miraculously Smooth, that I usually cowash with. Would I recommend this product to anyone? No. I am actually disappointed because I was so excited to try it myself! Will I be repurchasing it? No. As stated before, this product cost almost $8 for 16 oz, and I get Aussie Mircaculously Smooth for the same price for 29 oz and it comes in a pump :-). I will however use As I Am up, as it does do the job, just no wow factor, nope nothing special, yummy, or tantalizing.

Product Review: Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Curl Define & Hold

Absolutely love this product!! It has a very soft and sweet smell. Even better it never dissappoints.

How I use it: I usually use it for my braid outs. I do my braid outs on 70-80% dry hair, moisturize, and then appy HE TT to each strand of hair per braid.

Results:

I have used it for bantu knot outs as well. I would definitely be repurchasing when I am out, and will definitely reccomend it to anyone, looking for an affordable and fabulous product. I picked this up from my local Dollar Store, for about $4.

The Braid Out pictured was done on 70% dry hair.
Moisturized with a mix of Aussie Miraculously Smooth, water, & coconut oil.
Parted hair is 4 sections, did 2 braids per section, applying Herbal Esscence Totally Twisted to each section to be braided.
Rolled each braid end with a perm rod.
Allowed the braids to sit for 24 hours, because I have no life!! LOL

HOPE YA LIKED!

Product Review: ORS Moisturizing Hair Lotion

I know I am probably not telling you anything new, if you are seasoned in "hair care", but for those of you who are new, or just plain old "sleeping" on this product (like I was). I have over looked this time and time again, you may wonder what convinced me to finally pick it up. I may sound like a true hair STAN (stalker+fan), but it was seeing it in ULoveMegz stash! I use ORS Relaxer because of her, however I use the Professional kind, not the kit. Anywho my review on this product MAY be a bit biased since my hair is straightened and I recently dusted, using my SplitEnder. However I LOOOOOVE this product!! I am usually a Mizani girl, some of you may know but they can run anywhere from $17-$22 and while it is a great product, if I can get the same quality for less money, I most certainly will!! That is what I feel like ORS Moisturizing Hair Lotion is, an equivalent to my Mizani Butter Rich Hairdress, for less money. It is super creamy, does not take a lot, and my hair just feels moisturized!!!It really does just feel so moisturized and soft. It cost about $4.95. Sally's description of it reads:
  • Restores moisture to dry, thirsty hair
  • Conditions and protects hair from high heat
  • Not greasy or sticky
  • Long-lasting shine

"An Incredibly rich oil moisturizing hair lotion. With consistent use, hair will begin to show improved elasticity, hydration and shine. Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion protects hair from blowdryers and curling irons. Strengthens damaged hair. "
So far I have only used it once, but seeing how my hair is now it makes me excited to see the results I should recieve if I continue to use it on a regular basis.
The ingredients are:
Water - Aqua, Coconut Oil - Cocos Nucifera, Sorbitol, Trimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol , Petrolatum, Cyclomethicone, Peanut Oil - Arachi Hypogaea , Castor Oil - Ricinus Communis, Cetyl Esters, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Olive Oil - Olea Europaea, Stearic Acid, Triethanolamine, DMDM Hydantoin, Propylene Glycol, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Carbomer , Cetearyl Alcohol , Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, PEG-25 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Fragrance - Parfum , Benzyl Alcohol , Benzyl Salicylate , Geraniol, Hexylcinnamicaldehyde, Lillial, D'Limonene, Linalool, Lyral, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, BHT , Blue No. 1 - CI 42090, Yellow No. 5 - CI 19140
I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars. 4 simply because I wish it did not contain any Petrolatum lol, but other than that it is a thumbs up!!! As I stated I have only used once on flat ironed hair, I will do a follow up update after I wash and go back to my low maintainence hair styles when my hair has more texture in it.

Split Ender!!!

So I ordered the Split Ender Thursday night, and recieved it in the mail, the following Tuesday evening. I am currently 8 weeks post....I decided to flat iron on Monday so that I could use the split ender on straight hair...OMG....that was one battle....that I absolutely lost!!! I did not do it on a fresh wash, so my new growth was really hard and tighly coiled, when trying to comb through, I encountered many knots....I could not get the new growth straightend...I worked on my left side of my hair from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and got so disgusted that I took a break and finished up at 4:30 :-/ Ridiculous right?? Well Tuesday comes and I receive the split ender, I placed it mid shaft and it would not go smoothly through the hair piece :-/ (Majority of my hair is texlaxed...not by choice :-/, but slid through the straighter portion with ease. I went over each piece 3 times as instructed so by the 3rd time it however did go through the entire section easily. I was so distraught by my new growth that I implemented an emergency cowash (Aussie Moist), DC (Aussie 3 Minute Miracle) & Oil Rinse (Grapeseed Oil), I rinsed the oil out the next morning using Mizani Moisturefuse. Pulled back in a pony tail and allowed to air dry. I then re-flatironed my hair and had better result....still couldn't make my underprocessed hair bone straight tho :-(
This is my 1st time using to as a first impression

Would I recommend this product to anyone else?
Yes!! It did what is says that it will do without taking away any length.

What would I recommend during use?
Me personally I have chosen to only use this after a fresh relaxer, not meaning immediately after a relaxer, but maybe 3 weeks post, before new growth begins to creep in.

This is what was taken from my entire head; the last real trim I had was in April 2011.

As you can see on the right (pre split ender) you can tell where my hair is texlaxed (as it contains texture still) and the ends are bone straight.
On the left is after a second flat ironing and after the split ender as well.

This is my progress from 12/31 to now :

Product Reviews

I realized that since starting HHJ I have switched some prods and may not have mentioned them, so this post is dedicated to that :-))

I have not sat and thought of a staple relaxer yet, usually before this journey I could just go and pick up whatever blindly, so I used a Motions relaxer in August...which I did myself and was SUPER under processed so I could not get a real accurate feel of that.

And in October I used Silk Elements Megasilk relaxer

and it straightened my hair out EXTREMELY well considering the amount of new growth I had. My only thing is my hair is bone straight, like lying on the sides of my face straight :-/
Keep in mind I am just now about a week and a half post, so hopefully as I gain more new growth some body will pop back in it. :-)

So SE is like my 1st relaxer I've used since really trying to pay attention to my hair. IDK if I want to play around with different relaxers and see how my hair reacts or if I just want to stick with what I know.

I used Silk Elements Moisture Treatment

and my hair gobbled it up..loved it....another Lista used it and her hair had a bad reaction to it. That is what scares me with trying different prods, I would hate to have a set back due to curiosity.

Needless to say; I have yet to decide which relaxer I will use, but so far it is Silk Elements, and Im having good results.

Because I am bunning alot and I hate gel or JAM on my hair I am using ORS Smooth n Hold creme and Edge Control.

This has been a hair saver for me...DEFINITELY a staple product, and Im actually running out of the smooth n hold and will be repurchasing very soon. :-))
The cream is just that a cream, it does not feel jelly or hard on my hair, it does not leave flakes, it does it's job and I am just THANKFUL for this...I HATE hard crunchy hair as a result of gel...even JAM makes my hair hard, dries it out, and leaves flake. Smooth N Hold is a MOISTURIZER!!!!! It moisturizes while holding...ya can't go wrong :-))
The Edge Control, is like a hair wax (the bees wax, used to be orange) yea to me it seems like that. It is a convenience to have, when I need it, but I honestly don't use it as much as I use SNH. I usually just apply the SMH to my edges and brush it...and for the fly aways I may use the edge control. But it is a lovely prod to have as well, when i do have to use it.

I did a review on Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masquewhich is actually targeted for natural hair, and I use that DC during my longer stretch periods, because it is great on my new growth. I have not used it yet on my relaxed hair. but LOVE IT for my ng, it cuts through it and melts it like buttah baby.

For my cowashes I am an AVID V05 CLARIFYING CONDITIONER user :-)

AVID A.V.I.D!!! lol I emphasize that because that I have recently tried tried and TRIED to feel the magic with Herebal Essence Hello Hydration...but it was just blaaaaah....It was average, just another wash...but I kept trying bc all of my Listas swore by it...but when I used my V05 CC, it was no doubt about it, every single time my hair just melts, loves this stuff,. It is the perfect consistency for me, perfect amount of slip, just lovely. My hair responds well and this is undoubtably a staple for me. I have even used Moisture Milks and it did not do what Clarifying Conditioner has done for me, but I will return to Moisture Milks just to see once again if there is really a difference now that I now know how to "LISTEN to my hair.

And from the beginning of my journey I still use Aphogee 2 min Reconstructor, once a month now for maintainence.. and I use Hair One now as only a leave in....both of which I still love :-D

As for Oils, I use:
EVOOand
Coconut OilI do not use the EVOO as often as I use the Coconut Oil. I seal with Coconut Oil, because it is light, and smells great and seems to be moisturizing as well.
I use EVOO with Oil Rinses or Prepoos.

Oh and the one and only Castor Oil I use to promote growth. I have went from wrapping my ponytail holder 3 or 4 times around my ponytail, to now only having to wrap it around twice :-D

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR STAPLES???
